This year Leeds West Indian Carnival is going to be popping up in some very unexpected places and we are very excited to announce our first Pop Up Carnival in Leeds. On July 5th straight after the Grand Departure of the Tour de France, one of the worlds biggest annual sporting events, the Leeds West Indian Pop Up Carnival will be the next big thing to leave the start line!
30 newly commissioned carnival costumes from some of the UK’s top designers
Our parade, which is jam packed full of visually stunning costumes – which symbolise peace, love and unity will be accompanied by authentic Caribbean food, arts and craft stalls and the New World Steel Orchestra!
The Pop Up Carnival will bring a little slice of Carnival to Leeds to get everyone in the Carnival spirit! The jaw dropping procession will transform Briggate with its infectious tropical beats, high energy dance moves, live calypso and steel pan tunes and of course the vibrant and beautiful costume creations full of feathers, sequins and gems.
Pop Up Princess costume designer Sheila Howarth said;
“Pop Up Carnival will take the sights and the sounds of the Caribbean to audiences who may not be familiar with the joy that Carnival brings to the streets of Leeds every August Bank Holiday. This is their chance to get Carnival Happy!”
Leeds is our first Pop Up stop of the summer so we hope to see you there! We will also be popping up at Scarborough Seafest and again in Leeds so keep your eyes peeled for more exciting information. Keep up to date on Twitter with all things Carnival @CarnivalLeeds #PopUpCarnival
